JENNIFER by Dee Henderson

Jennifer O'Malley is a busy physician who pours her heart and soul into her pediatric patient's. They are more like her kids. While trying to help a hurting child, she runs into Dr. Tom Peterson who gives her some assistance. Her strength and dedication attracts Tom while Jennifer finds herself drawn to Tom's gentle personality and strong faith. Tom introduces Jennifer to the Lord and she is excited about her future and new found faith. She wants to introduce Tom to her family at their Fourth of July gathering. But what will happen when Jennifer's faith is push to the ultimate limit?

I have read the entire O'Malley Series so I was very excited to about reading 'Jennifer'. It's not a long story but it was very endearing and loaded with emotion. I found myself reaching for the Kleenex at one point. Jennifer's life is a secondary story within the O'Malley Series and you get to know her while reading through the stories. That's what made this story so touching, because you get to see how Jennifer and Tom met and got to know each other. If you haven't read the O'Malley Series, you could start with this story but understand, to find the conclusion to Jennifer's story, you have to read the entire series. (which you'll want to do because it's a GREAT series). If you've read the O'Malley Series, you will definitely want get this book. I think it's a great addition you won't want to miss.

JOSIAH'S TREASURE by Nancy Herriman

Sarah Whittier loves to paint and dreams of opening her own art studio in order to help several girls who come from difficult situations. After all Sarah knows what's it like to be in a difficult situation and to make foolish decisions. That was her life until the kindness of Josiah Cady. He left her some money and his home on Nob Hill. Then Josiah's son, Daniel, shows up. His anger burns against a father who left to hunt for gold and never returned. Now Sarah finds her inheritance challenged by him. Daniel and Sarah are drawn to each other but are at a stand-off. All she's planned just might be lost. Then rumors spread of gold nuggets being hidden in the house and it endangers Sarah's life. Daniel finds himself wanting to protect her. Sarah's torn by her feelings for Daniel. A guy who will likely steal her dreams. Will all be lost for Sarah? Will Daniel find peace in getting what is rightfully his?

Josiah's Treasure was an enjoyable story with very likable characters. It's setting was San Francisco during the gold rush era in 1882. I enjoyed getting to know Sarah. She was a very refined woman but had lots of backbone! Daniel is really a great guy. I liked that he was torn in his decisions about what to do. It was very realistic. Though this is not a fast-paced story, it does move along at a steady pace, all the while spurring the reader on to find the answer as to why Josiah never returned home to his family. You'll see the greed of man, the ugliness of sin and unforgiveness, how love and mercy can change a life and how God is faithful even when we're not. If you enjoy a good historical with a touch of romance then check out Josiah's Treasure.

HIDDEN IN PLAIN VIEW by Diane Burke

Sarah Lapp's life was turned upside in a moment of time when she loses her husband and her memory to a gunman. She doesn't remember anything of her Amish life or the people around her. The only thing she has left is her unborn child. Samuel King is the detective chosen to protect Sarah because he was born and raised Amish and knows how to easily blend in with their lifestyle. It doesn't take long for Sarah and Sam to realize their attraction for one another. A life together would be impossible though because she's Amish and he's an Englisher, or is it really true that with God, all things are possible?

Amish fiction is not my usual genre but the cover and the synopsis drew me to this story. I am so glad I read it! This author surprised me on many fronts. The story took turns I didn't anticipate which, to me, really enhances your reading experience. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and especially Sarah and Samuel. The chemistry between them was superb. You could just feel the tension. I also loved all the supporting characters. You really feel a friendship with this Amish community. And I've got to tell you that this author created a really scary villain. There were parts where I wanted to close my eyes but I couldn't because then I couldn't read what happened next! I also thoroughly enjoyed the ending! If you're in the mood for a great romantic suspense, then grab your coffee or tea, a cozy chair and dig into Hidden in Plain View.

THE CHANCE by Karen Kingsbury

Ellie Tucker and Nolan Cook grew up to together and were best friends. When Ellie's dad announces they are moving the next morning from Savanna, Georgia to San Diego, California, Ellie races to Nolan's house for comfort. He takes her to the familiar park, under 'their' tree, where they wrote each other a letter. They put the letters in a metal box and buried it under the tree and agreed that whatever happened, they would meet back there in eleven years to read each others letters. As time passed Nolan was realizing his dream of becoming an NBA star and his faith strengthened. For Ellie, life was one heart break after another to the point that she even lost her faith. As the day grows close to when they should meet, they each know that this might be the only chance to make sense of all the pain and loss and perhaps it might also be t*he chance to find love once again.

This was definitely an emotional and heart-wrenching story. It was kinda tough to read because it was so very sad. Real life can be like that way though and only God's grace will get you through those times which this author beautifully illustrates. The story keeps the reader very involved with how it will all turn out, although sometimes I grew a bit weary because of all the trauma. I loved Nolan and what he represented. His steadfastness in his faith and his love for Ellie was a great example of real love. Ellie felt very real to me and I think she was a great example of what can happen when you let go of God. Although you could totally understand why she felt the way she did. But with God, all things are possible and The Chance certainly brings that verse to life through it pages.
Kinzie is a sweet little girl who has such a sweet spirit and strong faith, you can't help but love her. At the end of all the sadness, there is hope through the Savior, that He will work out all things according to His purpose and glory.   I really liked the ending but found myself wanting an epilogue. One thing I thoroughly enjoyed, was seeing Molly and Ryan again from The Bridge. I'm so glad the author made them apart of this story. The Chance is a journey I would recommend but remember to fasten your emotional seat-belts, you're in for a bumpy ride.

WHEN TRUTH WHISPERS by Dora Hiers

Teal Benning is a best selling romance author who returns home to Promise Lake after breaking up with her finance`.  She's having trouble finishing the story she's in the middle of writing and hoping that she'll find some inspiration by being home again.  What she finds is Hunter Miciver.  Hunter and Teal have been best friends forever.  He was always the one who was there for her when things went wrong.  He's also always loved Teal but will she ever see him as a man who would love and cherish her?  Teal has trouble with trusting men except for Hunter.  But Hunter has a secret he's not shared with Teal.  When he tells her the truth, will she figure he's like the rest of the men she's known or will she finally see whats been right in front of her all along?

Once again this author brings to the table a well-crafted romantic tale.  One about returning home and finding what's important.  I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Teal and Hunter.  They were larger than life characters and the chemistry between them was electric.  I loved it!  I appreciated how Hunter handled things (especially his advice to Teal concerning her romance novels), but also how he waited for the Lord's direction and timing.  The Lord knows the plans He has for us, we just have to trust Him and wait.  That's usually easier said then done.  If you're looking for a quick romantic read with a hint of mystery then I recommend When Truth Whispers.

LESLIE'S LIFELINE by LoRee Peery

Lezlie Diamond and Jordan Marshall haven't seen each other in 16 years. She's now a nurse and he's a security officer at the same hospital. When a man's wife dies his anger is vented in Lezlie direction. Jordan is there is assist and make sure she get's home okay. Jordan never new why Lezlie disappeared, and though it hurt, he's never stopped loving or thinking about her. A rush of feelings return when Lezlie sees Jordan again. He's not the boy she left behind but a very grown-up, handsome man. One that still makes her heart beat fast. But Lezlie's got a secret. One she's kept for 16 years. His name is Jaxson. What will happen when Jordon finds out what that secret is?

This was a very enjoyable story and though it was short, there was quite-a-bit tucked into 43 pages. You'll find the characters are easy to get to know. The underlying theme is forgiveness which I always appreciate. I did feel like Jordan and Jaxson were a little to quick to forgive Lezlie, although that's really how we're suppose be, quick to forgive. But I also understand the difficulty in showing the full emotions in 43 pages. It was an uplifting story and you find a happily ever after at it's end. I realized after I read Lezlie's Lifeline that it's a novella that finishes out a series. Though that's true, I was fine reading it as a stand alone. LoRee Peery is a new author to me but I would like to check-out some of her other stories.

This story is available through White Rose Publishing.

BEAUTIFUL MUSIC by Marianne Evans

Callie Phillips has a past she's not proud of and one event she just can't quite put to rest. Though she's closed off her heart, she finds peace as a music director at Queen of Angles Church and choir teacher at school. Luke West is an EMT who has a passion for the sanctity of life. He's also been the rock his brother has leaned on, especially where his daughter, Dawn, is concerned. Dawn loves music and when Callie hears her sing she decides to help Dawn embrace her talent. Luke finds himself drawn to Callie. He sees a beautiful, talented woman with a loving heart. Callie's heart responds to Luke but she knows that once he knows about her past he'll want nothing to do with her. Will Luke forgive her past and show Callie she is worthy to be loved? Will Callie be able to open her heart to the possibility of love?

In this second installment of the Sal's Place Series we meet Callie and see how she deals with a very emotional event in her past. Something I'm sure many have dealt with. Callie was very likable and I felt like her emotions rang true. Luke was a level-headed guy with a heart as big as Texas and I liked the way he responded to Callie! Dawn was a such a cute and sweet little girl. I enjoyed getting to know her. This story did not have quite the playfulness Search and Rescue had, but we do get to see Ryan and Jennifer again, which was fun. One thing that kept coming to mind while I was reading is that 'as far as the east is from the west so far has God removed our transgressions from us'. If we're a believer, He remembers our sins no more. Although we know that's true, a lot of folks still struggle, just as Callie did, to let go of past transgressions. But remember Lamentations 3:22-23 'the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness.' So...can God really make Beautiful Music from a broken instrument? Drop by Sal's Place and find out!

NOT HIS TYPE by Lisa Crane

Brooke Valentine has not lead a charmed life. She's always had to struggle. Her grandfather basically raised her but they never had much money for nice things. Brooke's grandfather left her his house and his land but he also left her his medical bills and back taxes. She's going to school but she's also working two miserable jobs to try to pay everything off. She's even sold all the land except a half acre and the house that sits on it. Her new neighbor is Travis Cooper. He ex-military and runs a security firm out of his house. The one he built next to Brookes. While leaving for school on her motorcycle, Brooke has an accident. Travis is right there to help. She looses both jobs as a result of the accident and now finds herself being chauffeured around by her handsome neighbor. She's not sure why he's being so nice to her. Anyone can see he is way out of her league. Travis is attracted to his cute, spunky and stubborn neighbor but in a sisterly way. So why does her lips continue to draw his so strongly. She's not his 'type' of girl. When Brooke starts a new job at Babycakes Bakery, Jazz Valenzuela, her boss and friend, thinks she has a way of making Travis jealous so he'll finally admit his feelings for Brooke are more than friendship. But what will happen when Travis finds out it was all a set-up?

Not His Type definitely has a place on my favorites shelf! I read the story in practically one sitting. The author draws you in from the very beginning and you just can't stop reading until the end. Her characters are full of charm and whit, along with a bit of stubbornness! Brooke was someone you felt endeared to right from the start. She's so honest and down-to-earth and truly thought little of herself. She's had to handle a lot of things on her own but never a force like Travis Cooper. I loved Travis Cooper! You couldn't help but love him. He's strong, charming, generous and very handsome! A take-charge kinda guy who is comfortable in his own skin, except where Brooke is concerned. I loved his cute little pet names for her. You'll enjoy every moment of the story and won't be able to turn pages fast enough! Oh, an ladies...as if the story wasn't delicious enough, you are treated to an absolutely delectable ending! I loved it! This would make a great Hallmark movie! Lisa Crane is a new author to me, but I will definitely be seeking out her other stories!

THE HOUSE THAT LOVE BUILT by Beth Wiseman

Brooke Holloway lives in the cozy little town of Smithville, Texas. She lost her husband to a drunk driver two years ago but she's happy running the family hardware store, raising her two kids and looking after her mother. Owen Saunders only bought the old Hadley mansion to spite his cheating ex-wife because she always wanted to fix-up an old mansion in Smithville. He's bitter and vows never to love or trust another woman. Then he meets Brooke at the hardware store and they both find themselves intrigued with each other. Brooke tells Owen about the mystery surrounding the mansion. As they spend time together, trying to figure out the mystery, fixing up the house and getting to know each other, Brooke feels like she might be betraying her husband and Owen doesn't want to walk down 'lovers lane' again. As if things weren't complicated enough, they're also dealing with a troubled teen, a scaredy black cat, a traveling uncle, Brooke's mom and even Owens ex. But the old mansion that was known by it's first owner as 'the house that love built', just might live up to it's name. Can God use fixing up an old mansion to fix the hearts of those involved in the project?

What a thoroughly enjoyable story. It was loaded with charm yet covered some pretty tough subjects with it's root in forgiveness. Lets face it, we all can struggle with that so it was interesting to watch how each one dealt with their situation. I appreciate how the author so deftly brings to light how God can use us even when we're struggling. That was encouraging. Most of us are familiar with the verse 'love covers a multitude of sins' but you really see that verse brought to light in this story in a beautiful way. Love is a powerful thing! Though this is not a fast-paced story, it's one that certainly keeps you involved all the way through. The whole mystery surrounding the mansion was like hunting for lost treasure and I think it added a great element to the story. The relationship between all of the characters and their emotions felt true to life and spot on! You'll find yourself rooting for each one as you're reading along. These are folks that will linger with you long after you turn the last page. And I must say, I not only loved the ending but there was a twist I did not expect that just beautifully brought everything together. I loved the cover, loved the story and loved the message! Great job, Beth Wiseman! I would love to see more of these type stories from this author.

MEET SAGE MICHAELSON

My special guest today is Sage Michaelson from Dora Hiers lastest novel, Journey's Embrace!

Sage Michaelson here, a Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Witness Protection Program. Although lately it feels more like a Criminal Protection Program, especially after losing my spleen on the job.

When my best friend Steven texted, “Delaney in trouble. Can you keep an eye on her while I’m on my honeymoon?” I chucked the hospital gown and split for Journey Creek. We grew up in the same orphanage—Steven, his sister, and I—so that makes us practically brother and sister. How could I say no?

Besides, I needed time to recover and reevaluate. And a little distance from my ex-fiancĂ© couldn’t hurt. Jennifer always said I was married to my job. Guess she found a man who wasn’t because she wears a ring on her finger again. I’m OK with it. Sure, I gave her a ring and a commitment. But not my heart. How could I? The people I love always end up dead. I’m on my own. Best just to keep it that way.

What trouble was Dane in this time? That’s what we used to call Delaney. Growing up, she’d had long muscular legs. Cute, but in an awkward, gangly Great Dane sort of way. And always in trouble or causing trouble. I gather from Steven’s text that hadn’t changed.

I hadn’t seen the Dane in a few years, so it kinda threw me to see her waltzing away from the wedding reception in a silky turquoise gown, the kind of dress that forces a man to take a second look. Steven sure wouldn’t appreciate the thoughts that flitted through my head about his sister. To be truthful, I’d feel much better if she changed into her customary basketball shorts or work scrubs. Then I wouldn’t notice how she’d grown from the Dane into beautiful, vivacious Delaney. A woman who embraces passion and life with enthusiasm. A woman who puts others first, on the job and with the orphanage kids.

Maybe I shouldn’t have been so quick to ditch the doctor. All this ibuprofen seems to be messing with my head.

Steven only said that someone ransacked Delaney’s house. He didn’t warn me that a man had it out for her. Delaney insists God will protect her, but I’m not buying it. He didn’t protect my parents and sister from the car accident that killed them, or keep my granny from suffering a fatal heart attack on an airplane.

No, I can’t leave her to fend for herself. I promised Steven I would look out for her. But, somewhere along the way, protecting Delaney became less about my promise to Steven and more about my love for her…and God.

JOURNEY'S EMBRACE by Dora Hiers

Sage Michaelson is a Deputy U.S. Marshal who has come home to Journey Creek to rest and recuperate. His best friend Steve is getting married and asked Sage to watch over his sister, Delaney, while he's on his honeymoon. Sage knows that won't be an easy job considering all the trouble she used to get in while they were growing up. Then he saw her...and she sure wasn't anything like the 'Dane' he remembered. Delaney Hunt is a Flight Medic who loves her job, her Lord and has a love for life itself. She acts as spokesperson for Quiver Full Orphanage. But someone wants her silenced! She has always loved Sage but knows he'll never see her as anything but the little sister of his best friend. He's only sticking close to protect her. Nothing more. But when Sage makes some uncharacteristic moves toward her, she doesn't know what to think. Each of them has a dream for the future but will they ever get a chance see what that future might look like or will someone be successful in silencing Delaney?

Journey's Embrace is one of those stories that once you start reading it you can't put it down. Right from start you are drawn into suspense and the story holds you in it's grip until the last page is turned. This is an excellent addition to the Marshals of Journey Creek Series. Sage appeared in Journey's Edge and I couldn't wait to find out more about him. What a hero! I loved getting to know Sage and what made him tic. But this hero was afraid of something and I really liked the way that played into the story. What was it? You'll have to read the book to find out. Delaney was great! She was so refreshing and real. You could easily see why folks were drawn to her. Her simple faith impacted those around her, including Sage. The romantic tension was fabulous. I loved watching Sage and Delaney together. Lots of yummy moments! As I was reading, the verse that kept coming to mind was 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.' A good thing to remember. The suspense was well done and you don't really find out whose behind the attempts until the end! I like that! It was fun to see Renner and Trey again from the first two books. This is the third book in the Marshals of Journey Creek Series and although you could read it as a stand alone, you won't want to miss Journey's End and Journey's Edge. Dora Hiers has become a favorite author of mine and I would highly recommend any of her books.
