SOMEBODY LIKE YOU by Beth K. Vogt
Haley Ames is only married three years when her husband, Sam, is killed in Afghanistan. She's trying to come to grips with the loss as well as the upcoming birth of their child. One night when she arrives home, she gets the shock of her life. Her husband is waiting for her! How can that be? Stephen Ames hasn't spoken to his identical twin in more than twelve years. He wants to make things right but then finds out about Sam's death. He's hoping Haley can help him discover who his brother (and once best friend) became. He finds out however, that Sam never mentioned Stephen to Haley. Sam and Stephen were mirror images of each other and that's difficult for Haley at first, but as Stephen helps her out she begins to see how different they really are. Stephen and Haley are very drawn to each other and slowly build a relationship but is Haley only attracted to him because he looks like Sam. Would building a life together somehow dishonor his brother?
Somebody Like You is a beautiful story that is loaded with lovable characters that just reach out and grab you by the heart. Full of emotion and grace, along with splashes of humor, made this an absolute joy to read. The easy pacing helps you savor every moment (and I did). I would love to see this made into a movie! I loved the interaction between Haley and Stephen and most especially loved how Stephen handled things. Throughout the story, the author touches on many real-life challenges in a realistic way. I appreciated the spiritual thread running through the story; are we making our plans or are we asking God to show us His plans? Now there's some food for thought. The one thing I wished for when I got to the end was an Epilogue. I loved the ending but wanted just a little more, maybe because it was so hard to close the book on these wonderful friends. Beth Vogt has really become a favorite author of mine! I am looking forward to her next book-offering. In-the-meantime, I highly recommend Somebody Like You!
